A couple of years ago I was delighted to be offered, over the phone, shooting on a farm 20 minutes from home, when I went to visit and speak to the farmer and was horrified to find that he had permanent pitches for caravans dotted all over his land. There were no safe areas anywhere not even for an air rifle – and holiday makers and their pets had free range!

Generation Gap






I’ve just been browsing some the forums and spotted some photos with stories of youngsters getting involved with various activities from preparing game, cooking game and shooting, all part of a good grounding in ‘Conservation Education’. I dare say their parents did the same when they were kids but never thought of it as either conservation or education. We invented hunting (possibly) we have some of the best shooting estates in the world, the best gun manufacturers, the general licence, Gamekeepers, Beaters, Andy Crow and George Digweed (other big names are available), the Hunt, all kinds of Fishing and the opportunity for everyone to take part in Fieldsports – even vegans! Perhaps we are the best conservation and education teachers out there.
