I had a call on Friday afternoon asking if I wanted to meet up with Toby from Warwickshire Pigeon Shooting and have my first crack of 2018 on Winter Rape Pigeons.
We only had 2 hours of daylight left and he’d already set up a magnet with 2 Sillosocks Hypa Flaps and a bouncer with a dead bird on it which seemed to be bringing in a few prospecting birds.
When I arrived, armed only with a gun and some Lyalvale Pigeon Power cartridges in my pocket, there were already a few birds in the bag. I soon helped increase the tally by, well, several!
The point is that we were up against it with the fading light and we were willing birds to come in, when they did it was quick reaction shooting from under the tree where we had a net slung up in the low branches.
I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this short session, it was great to catch up with Toby and he was very diplomatic and encouraging about my (lack of) marksmanship, his comments varied from rubbish to really rubbish! The added bonus was I didn’t have to spend the rest of the evening thawing my toes out, I must be getting soft.
